California's Gene Therapy Program Not Isolated from Balky Insurance Companies
The news about an insurance company refusing to pay for a gene therapy for another child surfaced only hours after the California Stem Cell Report carried an article that said all is not well in the world of genetic treatments.
The latest case occurred in Athens, Tenn., and involved six-year-old Cooper Wood, who has a rare affliction known as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, television state WTVC reporter Meg Doyle said in her story.
"’Blue Cross Blue Shield is just letting our kids have a death sentence without giving a second thought,’ said Kaylin West, Cooper's mother.”
