The California stem cell agency today approved $12 million for a clinical trial aimed at finding a cure for Lou Gehrig’s disease, adding to the $80 million it has already spent on the effort.

The award for a phase one clinical trial went to Clive Svendsen at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles.
